The 31th year in Konnevesi Upper Secondary School is behind us. The small but innovative school has functioned really well and there have been enough students until now. The baccalaureate results of our upper secondary school were good again this spring and all the students who aimed to pass the matriculation examination this spring succeeded in doing so. Our students have actively applied to study places in universities and upper secondary level colleges. The best thing is if a study place can be found straight after the secondary school without a gap year. The competition for places is fierce, however, but I believe that due to good results and realistic plans as well as concentrating on getting in our young people will find a suitable study place.
The key mission of a school is to guide young people to make use of information and communication technology and operate there safely. Offering network teaching to pupils and students gives them acquirements for their further studies and in work life it uses the IT-knowhow, which is necessary for everyone. The network teaching offered by our school is pioneering in our country and in the future it will offer the young people in Konnevesi Upper Secondary School a chance for even higher quality and more extensive learning. The course selection offered in cooperation between upper secondary schools gives even a small school a chance to carry out individual studies from a wide- range selection.
Twenty upper secondary schools have joined the virtual network run by Konnevesi Upper Secondary School. On the common course market place there are plenty of courses of different subjects offered. Our school is involved in the shared project of Northern Central Finland secondary level education, in which the teaching of upper secondary schools and vocational schools is being networked. The most important function of the network is the common course market, in which different schools can share their teaching with others.
Specialists of different fields have visited classes in the school. Business visits have been made as well. The school has organized projects and excursions and trade shows have been attended. Trips to trade shows, class projects and class excursions bring a necessary change into the school work. After all, school is not just cramming in a classroom.
Cooperation in the Lapunmäki School Centre between different schools and the library and youth workers has gone smoothly. Cooperation with the town officials and trustees works excellently.
